Merrimac is one of the more affordable entry points in the lower Merrimack Valley, with single-family homes often available from the mid-$400Ks to $600Ks. Housing stock is predominantly mid-century ranches, capes, and split-levels, with some newer subdivisions built in the 1990s and 2000s. The town center is small, and most residents commute to larger employment centers via Route 110 or I-495, which is roughly a 10-minute drive. The town has limited commercial tax base, so residential property tax rates tend to run higher than average to fund municipal services.
